TRADITIONAL & ORIGINAL
BLUES, COUNTRY & FOLK
Jon Lawton is one of the best Folk, Blues, Americana singer/songwriters you’ve never heard of. He has been writing, recording and performing for decades. Jon plays an always interesting blend of original and traditional blues, country and folk music. Big Bill Broonzy, Brownie McGhee, John Lee Hooker, Hank Snow, Steve Earle, Pete Seeger, and Merle Haggard are significant influences for him. During his show Jon will rotate from National Steel, 12-string, 6-string guitars and banjo. Jon’s old-style guitar and banjo technique, plaintively conversational vocal style and dynamic ability to move seamlessly through rags, stomps, and his own observational tunes have marked him as a modern songster who makes tradition come alive every time he performs.
About Jon’s live solo show John Hammond said,” I don’t usually watch the opening act, but I was really impressed with Jon’s set. He killed!”
Jon has recently released his 12th CD, Midnight with the Light On. It is a masterful collection from 2 separate sessions: 1 - a fine country band, and 2 - a Rhythm and Blues band complete with horns, background singers, and excellent rhythm section. He has also recently released two other collections of songs online: The Virginny Sessions vol. 1 and The Good Old Days. They all feature some fantastic original tunes. Arrangements vary from solo to duo, and small acoustic bands. He also has an entire collection of instrumental music called Nerve and Headache Tablets.
All of Jon’s music is available online at all the major streaming services.
